Description

Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is a short and easy trek in the scenic lands of Annapurna region. Popular as Annapurna Sunrise Trek or Annapurna Panorama Trek, this is the most exotic treks. This trek takes you to the Poon Hill at 3210 meters.

Poon Hill is the most popular vantage point for the panoramic views of the peaks in the Annapurna region. It includes Annapurna ranges, Dhaulagiri ranges, Hiunchuli, Nilgiri Himal, Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre Himal.

This is an easy trek which starts from Kathmandu and takes you to the pristine land of Pokhara and to the Annapurna region. You will be walking on the pleasant trekking trails through the jungle and stone stairs inside the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).

You will walk through the typical Magar village of Tikhedhunga, Ulleri, and Ghorepani. On walking, you will get to know about the locals on the trek. Plus, you will get to walk with the local bypassers hearing their everyday stories.

Any type of trekkers, from novice to the experienced can do this trek. Also, you can either hire a guide or porter for this trek or you can trek as a solo trekker. 6 Days Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Itinerary

On the first day of your 6 days Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, you will start from Kathmandu, 1300 meters. You begin with a 6-7 hours bus ride to Pokhara, 800 meters from there. On this scenic bus ride, you will pass through the cascading Trishuli and Marshyangdi river.

And from your window seat, you can have the alluring views of the landscapes, scattered settlements, and the terraced farms. While at Pokhara, you can relax around the Fewa lake or enjoy the restaurants, pubs, spa around the city.

The next morning, you will enjoy a warm breakfast at Pokhara and leave for Nayapul. To reach there, you will take a ride of around 2 hours passing through the scenic villages. From Nayapul your actual trek on foot starts. You will show your permits at Birethanti check post and proceed the trek for the day.

On this day you will walk around 9.2 km along with different Magar villages like Birethanti, Sudame, Hile village. After the trek of 4-5 hours, you will finally reach Tikhedhunga for the overnight stay. There are many tea houses at your service in the village.

On this day, you will cover the total distance of 12 km to reach Ghorepani village, 2860 meters. After breakfast at Tikhedhunga, you will walk for around 6-7 hours. Your trek passes through Ulleri, Banthanti and Nanggethanti village to finally reach Ghorepani village for the night stay.

You will ascend the thousand of stone stairs of Ulleri on this day. And, walk through the lush forest and vegetation.

On this day, you will wake up at dawn. And start off for the 45 minutes hike to Poon Hill, 3210 meters from your teahouse in Ghorepani. You will catch the sunrise views from the hillock and enjoy the Himalayan panorama. Then you will descend to Ghorepani, enjoy your breakfast and set off for the day.

On this day, you will leave the trails of Annapurna Base Camp trek and march towards the Ghandruk village. Today you will cover the distance of 14 km and walk for around 7-8 hours to reach Ghandruk (1940 meters). It is the biggest Gurung settlements in Annapurna region for the overnight stay.

On this day, you will wake up to view the stunning views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre Himal from your bed. Then after breakfast, you will start your final walk of the trek towards Nayapul. On descending the stone stairs you will walk through Syauli Bazar.

Your total walk on this day will be around 8.6 km across different settlements to reach Nayapul in around 4 -5 hours. From Nayapul, you will catch a bus to reach Pokhara for the overnight stay. This is a ride of around 2 hours.

This is the final day of your Ghorepani Poon Hill trip. Early in the morning, you will greet the mountain ranges of Annapurna ranges from your breakfast table. Best Time for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Similar to other trekking trails in Nepal, the best months of trekking to the Poon Hill is (September, October, November) - Autumn and (March, April, May) - Spring. During these seasons nature is at its best with the pleasantness everywhere. These months are the dry months with no rainfall nor the snow. Plus, the humidity is low so you will get the sharpest views of everything around.

Spring is the time of rhododendrons and other in the trekking trails to the Poon Hill. You will walk through the heart of accompanied by the chirps of the variety of birds. During this time the temperature ranges around 20 to 30 degree Celsius in the daytime. While the night time temperature may fall a bit but it is bearable.

Autumn is the best time for the Poon Hill trek. This season offers you the clearest of the views and the most pleasant trekking experience. You will experience quite moderate weather. The temperature is around 28 -12 degree Celsius during the daytime. 

However, the trek is possible at any time of the year. The summer (June, July, August) and Winter (December, January, February) have their own charm and beauty. The summer brings greenery everywhere in the trekking trail. You can get the most scenic views of the mountain peaks after the rainfall. 

While in the winter you may find the trail covered in snow and temperature may be quite cold. However, that will not stop you from enjoying the enchanting views of Poon Hill blanketed in the snow. With warm clothing and sturdy trekking boots, the trek will be fantastic.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Difficulty

Ghorepani Poon Hill is an easy trek in the Annapurna region which is suitable for all trekkers. The trail is less challenging and you do not need technical climbs for this trek. 

On this trek, you will either walk through the flat jungle trails or you will ascend or descend down the stone stairs. And you will walk around 4-5 hours each day during this trek. So, the trek is less physically challenging.

Many trekkers may find the thousands of stone stairs of Ulleri. But if you walk slowly maintaining your pace, and taking proper rest then the ascend will be less difficult. 

With rain in the monsoon season, you may have to face many leeches, bugs and slippery trails as the downside of this trek. However, you can overcome this challenge by using insect repellents, trekking poles, and sturdy boots.

With the least challenges, you will enjoy every moment on this trail to the fullest.
