Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek is recognized for the series of magnificent lakes in the Gokyo valley and the famous Cho La Pass, pull us through the landmarks of the Khumbu region; majestic mountains, Sherpas traditions, colorful monasteries, the Namche Bazar, the Sagarmatha National Park, and, of course, to the base of the gigantic Everest.

It also provides a moment to observe the lifestyle of Sherpa; the world great climbers, exploring to Everest base camp through one of the world heritage site (Sagarmatha National Park), to view different flora and fauna that are found nowhere in the globe and the ancient big monasteries that existed for many years.

15 Days Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek Itinerary

After a morning flight to Lukla, you’ll be introduced to your guide and porter. After having a short break in Lukla. You will start your trek with an easy walk through Chaurikharka village and descent towards Thadokoshi to Ghat (2,530m). The trail follows the bank of the Dudhkoshi River until Phakding (2,652m), where you will be staying for the night at a teahouse. You can enjoy the view and vibe of Teahouse accommodation.

After breakfast in Phakding before gearing up for the trek to Namche Bazaar, the biggest sherpa village in Nepal. Our trail takes us first over the Dudhkoshi River via a long suspension bridge, and then through a beautiful pine forest to Monjo, about two hours away. Soon thereafter, we will approach the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park for a brief permit check and then descend to Dudh Kosi River (spotting Maney stones along the way) en route to Jorsale. We will stop for Lunch, and then it’s uphill to Namche. Our trekking path along the riverbank crossing one of the highest bridge in Khumbu Region- which is the Hillary Suspension Bridge. From Top Danda, you will see the first glimpse of Mount Everest. After one hour trek, we will overnight at Namche Bazaar – One and only gateway to Everest.

Next day is all about acclimatization. We will hike to Everest View Hotel (3880m) where you can view Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Amadablam, and other mountains. This hike will help speed acclimatization for trekking to Everest Base Camp. Also, you can check out the Sherpa museum for an overview of the Sherpa culture and history of mountaineering. 

On Saturdays, the Hatt Bazaar is open for trading and an intimate look at the locals’ marketplace. It is part of the larger Namche Bazaar, a shopping hub filled with all manner of trekking and mountaineering clothing and gears. Namche Bazaar is the last stop for exchanging foreign currency and withdrawing money from ATM.

After Breakfast in Namche Bazaar. Get ready towards Everest Base Camp trek. You can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas – Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kwangde – are some of the highlights you don’t want to miss. A short drop takes us to the riverside, then it’s across the river upwards through the forest pass. Brace your legs for a continual uphill trek at this point, alternating between a gradual grade and some seriously steep ground! 

Our destination, Tengboche, is known as one of the most beautiful places in the Everest region. Its views, which include Ama Dablam, are legendary. We’ll stop in on the Tengboche monastery, which is one of the largest monasteries in Khumbu. Enjoy the guided tour of the monastery grounds, followed by chanting and prayer with the resident Buddhist monks. At this monastery, Lama will give you a blessing for successful trekking and expedition ahead.

After a hot breakfast in Tengboche. Our trek will start through the rhododendron forest to Deboche followed by a bridge over the raging ‘Imja Khola’ River. We’ll pass the valley and cross last suspension bridge for Everest Base Camp Trek then we will reach to Pangboche village, the biggest settlement of Sherpas in the region. 

Enjoy a great opportunity to observe a typical Sherpa village and have lunch. If you want, you can hike to the Pangboche monastery, one of the oldest in the area. After hiking to Pangboche, we will be heading towards a wide valley which has a dry atmosphere and deserted mountains. Our last stop will be at Dingboche.

Accimilitization in Dingboche will be the last stop for your trip. Utilize your day by exploring Dingboche and hike up to Nagarjuna Hill (5083m). From that hill, enjoy the Island Peak Summit, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Amadablam, Lobuche Peak, Glacier Lake, the high passes of Amphu Laptsa, and Makalu Barun National Park. After getting back from a day hike. We will lunch at Teahouse and take a rest. If you have any clothes to wash, then you can do it at that time.

After breakfast, the trek will move gradually and be more challenging, due to the higher altitude. We’ll pass Thukla, but not before a tough, steep walk to the top of a high hill. Here are the memorial stupas dedicated to the climbers and trekkers who lost their lives to Everest over the years. 

The next part of our adventure brings over a rocky mountain landscape to Lobuche, a small settlement with amazing views of Mt. Lobuche, Mt. Pumori and the Nuptse. Prepare to make yourself warm up for a cold night because we are now almost at 5000m above sea level and the evenings can really cold.

After breakfast, we will head to our final destination for Everest Base Camp. On the way to our destination, we’ll approach the famed Khumbu Glacier and icefall, located on the slopes of Everest. At the Base Camp, our objective, you’ll have an opportunity (during the spring climbing season) to meet climbers attempting to scale the mountain’s summit. Don’t forget to take out your cameras to capture mesmerizing views of majestic mountains. After enjoying the sunset, we’ll head back to Gorekshep for rest. We will overnight at Gorak Shep.

Today, we will wake up before sunrise to trek towards Kalapathar (which means “black rock”). You can enjoy the spectacular view of Nuptse Nup, Changtse, and Lhotse. Kalapathar is one of the best viewpoints of Everest and its region. It is also the highest point that you can be on this trip. 

You can capture amazing pictures of mainly Khumbu Glacier and Mt. Everest. After clicking some amazing pictures, time to get back to Gorakshep for breakfast and down in the direction of Dzongla, our stop for accommodation.

After breakfast, today we will cross Cho La Pass. It is one of the toughest days of our trek. Cho La is one of the high passes of this region and it can be slippery due to ice along the route. It is steep climbing until we reach the top of Cho La Pass. The top of the pass is decorated with prayer flags. We will also have an excellent view of peaks situated next to us; Mt. Cholatse and Mt. Tabuchi. 

On the top of the pass, the trail is really narrow that will make us difficult to walk. Once we continue further from here we will have amazing views of the valley and villages on the horizon. The trail after the pass is mostly downhill. In the afternoon it can be slippery due to melted ice/snow because of the sun. Overnight in Thangna.

After early morning breakfast, our short trek (2-3 hrs) begins with a view of Ngozumpa Glacier. After reaching Gokyo, we will explore the Gokyo Valley. From there, we can visit the glaciers, Gokyo Lake, views of the Himalayan giants like Everest; Cho-Oyu, Lhotse Makalu and Cho-Latse. Also, in the best weather, you can view the sunset in Everest and its range from Gokyo Ri. Overnight in Gokyo.

Early morning after breakfast, we will climb up to the viewpoint of Gokyo Ri (5,360m) for Sunrise, which begins on the northern side of the lake, opposite the village. Panorama invites an early start and involves a two-hour climb to its summit. It overlooks the broad, rubble-covered Ngozumpa Glacier. From the Gokyo Ri, you can enjoy the unforgettable vista of the Himalayan chain that includes Cho-Oyu and Ghyachung Kang, the north face of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cholatse, Taboche, Thamserku, Kangtega, Kusum Kangru (all over 6,300m) and many more, some unnamed. We will trek down to Dole.

Today, after breakfast, we will trek from Dole to Namche which is about 5-6 hours. Trek route combines both uphill and downhill. Uphill starts from Phortse Thangna to Mongla where you can view Mt. Amadablam and Mt. Thamserku. Then, downhill to Kyangjuma. We will reach Namche by walking a flat and wide path. Overnight in Namche.

After breakfast, we will trek towards the Hillary Suspension Bridge and then pass through several local villages; Jorsale, Monjo, Banker, Tok Tok, Phakding, Ghat, and Chuplung. In the evening, we will celebrate the victory of completing the trek. Last night to experience an upgraded teahouse in Mountains with your entire trekking team.

After early breakfast in Lukla, we will take a 30-minute flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla. This ends the trekking part of the journey. One last you can revel in the different sights of the landscapes while on the flight. 

After landing at Kathmandu airport, you will be directly transferred to your booked Hotel. One of the Mount Mania representatives will invite you to attend a farewell dinner with a cultural show.
