Description

Panch Pokhari Trek is an adventurous and exciting trek, situated in the Sindhupalchok district of Nepal. Pancha Pokhari (4,100 m) is a group of 5 holy lakes that are equally honored by both Buddhists and Hindus. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the Himalaya.  

In Janai Purnima, a pilgrimage from Nepal visit this popular destination. Festival in Janai Purnima draws hundreds of people and local villagers to offer their prayers to their Gods. 

The trek offers a great experience and mesmerizing views of the landscapes and the Jugal Himalayan range. This range includes snow-capped peaks like Madiya (6257m), Phurbi Chhyachu (6,637 m) and Dorje Lakpa (6,966m). The trekking routes lie in the northeast of Kathmandu that is filled with beautiful biological diversity and a combination of rich culture and traditions. The trek also focuses on the religious and historic places of Langtang which is similar to Tibetan Culture. 

During the trek, you’ll get to explore the rich culture and traditions of Sherpa and Tamang villages. In addition to that, you will also enjoy the lifestyle of the local people and their daily activities. You might come across many ethnic groups and villages on the way towards Panch Pokhari. They will welcome you and treat you with great hospitality.

Panch Pokhari trek continues for 12 days. From Kathmandu, you’ll drive towards a place called Chautara. On the second day, your trekking journey begins from Chautara (1,450 m). The trekking trails offer you beautiful vegetation, landscapes, and forest of rhododendron and oaks along with the great Himalayan range. When you reach the most anticipated place of your trekking journey Panch Pokhari, the biodiversity and the natural beauty of the area will fascinate you. These five ponds are sacred ponds. These ponds are at the base of the Jugal Himal, the ecology is pretty diverse and of considerable interest.

After enjoying the time at Panch Pokhari, you’ll continue your trek for a couple of days and after you reach Melamchi (800 m), you’ll drive back to Kathmandu in a private jeep and then depart. For further details, please feel free to contact us.

Drive duration: 5 hours

On the first day of the Panch Pokhari Trek, you’ll be heading towards Chautara on a private jeep from Kathmandu. You’ll be driving through the Araniko highway and after you reach Sindhupalchok district, the small and beautiful Chautara village will welcome you. Overnight stay in a guesthouse at Chautara.

Walking duration: 5-6 hours

This day will be the beginning of your trek. You’ll start your trekking journey from Chautara to Sano Okhareni. Steadily ascending uphill while trekking through the interesting trail as it covers the ethnic and mixed settlement. You can see how the people of different casts and backgrounds living peacefully side by side.

After crossing terraced farmlands and several small streams with an easy ascend, you’ll reach Sano Okhareni. From Sano Okhareni you can witness the beautiful mountain views. You can explore the lifestyle and religions of the people living in that area. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Sano Okhareni.

On the following day, you’ll trek from Sano Okhareni to Kami Kharka. You’ll gradually ascend uphill until you reach a place called Thulo Okhareni.

After you reach Thulo Okhareni, the trail ahead becomes narrower and steeper. You’ll be walking through beautiful forests, flora, and fauna. The trail is popular with the chance of seeing birds and some wild animals. The national bird of Nepal ‘Daphe’ is also found in these trails.

After a quick and gentle walk, you’ll reach Kami Kharka. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Kami Kharka.

Walking duration: 5-6 hours

On this day you’ll be trekking from Kami Kharka to Pauwabas. You’ll start the trek from stead flatland and through the tranquil forest region.

The trail is gentle and easy-going while passing through the dense rhododendron, pine, juniper, and oaks forest. You might spot some mountain deer or langur monkeys, birds and other wildlife if you’re observant and lucky enough.

After a long walk, you’ll see the houses of the nomads for cattle herders migration. If you’ve got leisure time, you can explore the shelter for pilgrims to Panch Pokhari after reaching Pauwabas. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Pauwabas.

Walking duration: 5-6 hours

After breakfast, you’ll continue the trek by gradually ascending uphill from Pauwabas. As the altitude starts to increase higher, you’ll ascend for 3 hours at a slow pace. The trail towards Hille Bhanjyang is rich with bamboo, oak, pine, rhododendron forest, and alpine vegetation.

After 3 hours of trek, you’ll reach a hill from where you can see the beautiful mountain ranges of Sindhupalchok district. You’ll then descend for 2 hours downhill through the forest and after a gentle walk, you’ll reach Hille Bhanjyang.

You can see some mesmerizing views of waterfalls, Himalayan range, rivers and beautiful villages from the ridge of Hille Bhanjyang. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Hille Bhanjyang.

Walking duration: 4-5 hours

On this day you’ll be trekking from Hille Bhajyang to Narsimpati. This will be an easy walk. You’ll start by ascending uphill for an hour while enjoying the beautiful surrounding of green panorama and hilly slopes.

Then we descend downhill for 3 hours through the dominated path of rhododendron forest and rocky hill until you reach Narsimpati. Narsimpati offers a stunning view of the Jugal Himalayan range. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Narsimpati.

On this day, you’ll be trekking towards Panch Pokhri, the most anticipated destination of your trek, from Narsimpati. In Nepal, Pancha Pokhari has great significance for the holy pilgrims.

You’ll start by gradually ascending through the steep trails and rocky hills for 3 hours. During the trek, you’re delighted by the beautiful alpine forest, villages and diverse wildlife.

After an hour of a gentle walk, you’ll reach Pancha Pokhari. The summit of Panch Pokhari offers a great view of the Jugal Himalayan range, Rolwaling range, Langtang range and the five holy water, Panch Pokhari itself. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Panch Pokhari.

Today you’ll start early by trekking towards the top of Panch Pokhari. After you reach the summit of Panch Pokhari, you’ll witness the panoramic views of Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Jugal Himalayan range, Gaurishankar (7134m), Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Himalayan range and Rolwaling Himalayan range.

After spending some time, you’ll return back to Panch Pokhari and then trek to Tupi Danda. You’ll descend downhill gently through the steep hill while passing the rhododendron and oaks until you reach Tupi Danda. The forest you walkthrough is also rich in alpine vegetation. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Tupi Danda.

On this day, you’ll be trekking from Tupi Danda to Dhap. You’ll descend downhill for 2 hours along the steep trails and 3 hours in an easy trail while walking through the terraced farm fields and hillsides.

After you enter the tiny ethnic settlements of Tamang people, you’ll reach Dhap. Dhap is home to Tamang people and their families. You can explore the lifestyles and their culture and tradition of the Tamang communities. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Dhap.

Today, you’ll explore the small and beautiful village of Dhap. You’ll be interacting with lots of Tamang people to know about their culture, tradition, and lifestyle.

Today, you’ll be trekking to Melamchi from Dhap. Melamchi is the settlement for Hindu people while the Buddhist people are extensive in the high mountains.

You’ll be walking along the terraced fields and the riverbed of Indreni waters. On the way to Taipei, you’ll come across the Hydroelectricity project.

After you reach Melamchi, you can explore the Melamchi bazaar along the Hindu temples and monasteries in your leisure time. Overnight stay in a lodge at Melamchi.

Panch Pokhari Trek Difficulty

Pancha Pokhari trek is a moderate trek filled with adventurous trails and scenic views. However, there might be some difficulties during the trek. So, to make your trek successful, we provide you with professional guides. They will help you with every step of your trekking journey.

Altitude sickness is one of the difficulties of this trek. The trek will elevate from 1,300 meters to 4,100 meters so, there are chances for altitude sickness. During the trek, you’ll be walking slowly and gently while taking lots of rest and water breaks to keep yourself hydrated.

You can do this trek even if you are not physically fit but it might be a little hard for you. We suggest you do some light physical exercise and prepare yourself 2-3 weeks before the trek. This trek is suitable for any age and experience.

Trekking with the right gear is also important to complete the trek successfully. You’ll need useful trekking gear and lightweight packing. Packing useful and handy equipment also plays a great role to complete the trek. The guide will be helping you with that too.

Best Time for Panch Pokhari Trek

The most popular time to do Panch Pokhari trek is in spring (March to May) and autumn(September to November) season. During these seasons you can experience the beauty of the trek to its fullest. Clear skies and mountains with no clouds distracting you. Green hills and valleys with a clean atmosphere and beautiful sight of the rushing rivers, waterfalls, and gorge. But you can complete this trek in other months too but you’ll need proper planning and the right trekking gear to deal with snow and cold.

Food & Accommodation

Food and Accommodation facilities will be according to your choice during your stay in Kathmandu. The rooms will be clean and comfortable. You’ll also taste the local flavors with international cuisines according to your requirements.

However, you’ll spend the nights in tented camps. You will get typical Nepali food as your trekking journey starts. You’ll be eating foods with lots of energy and protein as it is important for you during the trek. You’ll be staying in an average guesthouse at Chautara and Melamchi. So, don’t expect standard facilities for food and accommodation during your stay.

Spending the nights at a tented camp and cooking food for yourself might be a little hard but these things will make your trip more adventurous and memorable. Make sure you carry your favorite snacks and drinks along the trek.
